You didn't even tell us what Operating System you use, so we can't even "guess" on it's file format it is setup with. Sorry this message is so vague, but you provided almost no information about this issue, so I'm making some eduucated guesses. Reformatting it as "NTFS" will make it compatible with Linux(NAS) and Windows, and will permit "long filenames". (FAT32 is the worst format possible, however it is typically compatible with Windows, OS X, and Linux, so this is frequently the format they use. If it is still using the original "factory format" that may be the issue right there.įrequently external drive manufacturers with "pre-format" drives with "FAT32" format. If you format it in the NAS it will probably increase it's chances of working properly with your NAS going forward. It is possible that the USB interface on that drive is incompatible with your NAS, however this is frequently caused by an incompatible "format" on the drive.
